Puscisca and the stone cutter school

Tuesday will be our first day of real biking. We start with 18.7 km from Postira to Pucisca, a beautiful town, home to a state-owned stone cutters school.

The school is nearly free to Croatians with the intention of keeping the ancient art alive. There is some fear that Croatia's recent entry into the European Economic Union will open it up to more people and tuition may soar.

The students are taught the classic way of cutting stone that goes back to Greece and Rome - no machinery - only hand tools.

Quarries we rode past supplied stone for Diocletions Palace and the White House. (That factoid sounds suspicious to me.)
The students learn the classic techniques and some go on to careers with modern construction materials, others to fine arts... but we were told none of them have trouble finding a good job and a profession.

This one may not have a future, though.
Did Donna do this?

The students use no breathing or eye protection.

Let the chips fall where they may.

After lunch in Puscisca out was back to the bikes for the long ride up the mountain to Skrip.
