Ride Hvar's Wilderness to Stari Grad

Friday, Sept. 20
A good day of biking today. It starts by riding through the gates of the Spanish fortress and a 4 mile climb on a mountain road with some pretty scary switchbacks. Donna and I choose to take the easy way by riding to the top in the van and gliding down the other side.

The entire island is streaked with thousands of rock walls, the work of two thousand years of work to make the land productive. The walls were not made to create fences - but to clear way to find earth to plant olives and grapes.

Its Friday and the weekenders are sailing to Hvar from the mainland.

Stari Grad, the oldest continuously occupied settlement in Dalmatia.
First the Illyrians, then the Greeks, The Romans and the Croatians.
Actually, they've found relics of Neanderthals in the area as well.

 Our retirement project:
This old hotel was closed and for sale. Jim and I fantasized about buying it and selling time shares. I'd be happy to stay behind and run it. Anyone interested in investing? We are steps away from the water.
